In preparation for the camp, we delved into the topic of culture, and how it integrates itself into a society and changes it as a result. We focused mostly on the many different cultures in West Sacramento, such as Russian or Latin. We also focused on areas of West Sacramento that weren't attributed to race or heritage, such as agriculture and the values of a modern day Californian. My takeaway from this is that differences in culture are needed for a society to expand and flourish as a whole. It opens the minds of the people to beliefs and worlds they weren't aware of, and enriches their lives for the better.

We focused on our vision for the summer camp by first listing things we thought represented our community, such as diversity and equality. Eventually, we worked our vision into a few sentences, then spliced them all together to form a two sentence preview of what the camp would entail.

We put the various steps to creating the summer camp into play, and have completed the steps of number one, which was piecing together the mission, vision, and values we must reach and complete, along with the camp goals of both the counselors and participants, and the strategies we'll se to reach them. The next thing to establish is the camp name, logo, and slogan, which I'm looking forward to.

Today we chose models for our camp logo, which is to be entitled Camp Yampa, after the flower indigenous to California. I'm happy with our final ideas, and I'm sure our future participants will be too.

Yesterday I developed several literary games for the campers most interested in the writing part of Camp Yampa. I made a total of four, pulling inspiration from games I've played myself that help with inspiration and creativity.

Today I developed an idea for the final performance for the writing campers of Camp Yampa. There will be three methods of showcasing: Solo, Art Duo, and Performance. In solo, Campers who wish to have a solo showcase can lay their work out for family/friends to read before/after the show or during intermission.
They could also read it out loud during their day of performance. For an Art Duo, Campers can team up with an art camper to illustrate scenes from their story to lay out/read before/after the show or during intermission. For a Performance, Campers can team up with a total of four theatre campers who can act out the story and recite the dialogue as the author reads it aloud.

Today I worked with Counselor Eeleni to help develop the orientation/information meetings between counselors and parents/campers. Even though we're still in the beginning stages, the meetings feel informational and through.

I had a total of three meetings, spanning from 1-4. I'm glad I was able to work with all my teammates more than usual. I enjoy hearing their feedback and ideas when it comes to Camp Yampa.

It's weird not having Mr. Hanks on the calls anymore, but I feel confident in my teammates, and he'll be back by Thursday. Stella and I are putting together Health and Protocol rules for every focus.

Mr. Hanks came back, and it was nice having the usual start up meeting. I was also able to have some of my questions ansered, one pertaining to the art teacher resources. I'm still not 100% sure whether that list is needed, as we've got materials for every focus already listed, and have planned out a day to day, but Stella and I will nonetheless be working on it. I also had a mid-point meeting with Hanks. I'm glad he's pleased with my work ethic and perofrmance, I am too. I realize however that I should write more when it comes to the journal. I started out strong, but as summer has rolled by my efforts with the journal have dwindled. I guess it's just because at the end of the day I've alrady been spending so much time going over my progress and completed tasks that I'm not even sure where to start when it comes to getting it on the page. But I'll definitely work on that, and a change will surel be seen in the near future.

I've completely finished with my activity charts. I decided to fine tune them today, and add some more information to a few that seemed too vague. Having them completely done definitely is helping me bring my camp schedule into motion, and how I'll spread out my focus over the course of the six week summer.

I have finished up a slide project about literary genres, which I think would be a good starting point when it comes to teaching the campers about creative writing. After defining the genres, I have a picture showing the main genres with the subgenres surroundng it. There are SO many subgenres, especially in science fiction and fantasy. I'm glad I finished it, but a part of me feels like I barely scratched the surface, but I did list a lot. I hope it's not too boring for the campers. I also started a slide project about lterary terms and devices. There are over fifty of them that I found during research, but I was able to slim it down to a basic list of ten. I hope it helps the campers.

I cleaned up the activity applications, adding numbers to each along with changing the title to the category. Afterwards, I finished up my work on the website, adding info where it's needed and filling in a few blanks on my designated pages.

Yesterday we held a Thespian meeting about the upcoming 20-21 season. At first I thought the meeting would make me depressed, given that since we can't perform toegther in person then options would be slim. But we did end up coming up with several good ideas, such as a podcast such as Nightvale or Limetown, that has a fictional story attached to it, and is narrated by fictional characters. Other than that I worked on the website a bit, just looking over things. It's weird knowing that we're wrapping up on the camp, and will be presenting it to the board.

Yesterday I finished the literary terms slide show. I mostly cleaned up around the rough edges and checked the spelling. The meeting we had was about the names of the mid way talent show and then the final performance.

We finally decided that the half way talent show will be named Beat the Heat, though there were some disgareement on whether it should be that or Summer Vibes. I was satsified with either, I like both, but in the end chose Beat the Heat as that's what most of my teammates seemed to favor.

After a summer of hard work, we have finally reached our end presentation to the board. I'm going to be sad that this internship is over, but I've learned a great many things about what working in a team is all about. I have missed putting in journals, and for that I apologize, but in the last couple of the days the work was only a continuation of the project of the day prior, and I had nothing to add that was of importance. But now I do: the script and presentation are in their fnal stage. After two run throughs, our timing is practically perfact. I can't wait to hear what the VAPA task force and the school board think of Camp Yampa.

We’ve finished our first week of Camp Yamp. It’s honestly kind of jarring to be here in person and watch what I spent all last summer working on come to life, but I’m so thankful I was able to see it come into fruition. I’m the creative writing counselor and have the joy of teaching one student f and anyone else who wishes to sit in. So far we’ve gone over basic plot lines and studied the hero's journey and the several character archetypes tied to it. She’s shy, but I know she’ll come out of her she’ll soon enough. The kids are wonderful to work with and I’m so happy they’re enjoying themselves. I just know it’s gonna be a terrific summer.

This entry is a little late my bad. Second week is over and third week has officially begun. It’s a total blast, the kids are great albeit a bit eccentric but I’m so happy they’re excited for the camp. They jump right into games and activities, though sometimes complain when it comes to planning or actual work, like preparing for the final performance. My kids are doing skits about diversity and identity, which somehow fit into three sketches about Bob Ross and a sassy canvas, a Minecraft SMP, and a ghost and poltergeist having a haunt-off.

The second week of Camp Yampa is over. It’s weird knowing it’ll end next week. So much preparation has gone into this and then it’s over in the blink of an eye. I’m so thankful to be a part of this and to help teach all this kids about visual arts.

Camp Yampa is officially over. We just finished packing up and actually ended up finishing early. I’m definitely sad it’s over. Time flew by, and I really enjoyed my time as the creative writing counselor. I wish we’d had more time, and I wish I was able to do it again next summer. I hope whoever takes my position enjoys their time at Camp Yampa as much as I did.
