Honesty, we’ve had a great first couple days! We had a day of pre planning for the first day to sort out our thoughts and I left feeling pretty confident. Getting to know the kids over these past couples days has been a great experience, they all have such unique and fun personalities. It’s amazing how collaborative they are only three days in, especially in focus groups. I’m feeling confident about my lessons, my group is awesome with their participation and involvement and I feel like we’re both learning tons by being here. I can’t wait for us to get more involved with the technical aspects of their final presentations, they’ve impressed me already! In all I think we’ve had a great start to the camp and I think that there’s nothing but more good to come from it.
With everything starting to pick up the week was a bit more hectic, but I would say overall pretty successful. We’ve made some headway on our end of the camp final showcase and h think the kids are starting to form connections and learn how to work with each other’s personalities. I also feel like the kids are making a lot of progress with the elements of art, I think that the visual arts students are producing some pretty great work.
With the final performance coming closer I feel like all the Yampers are making some great progress! They’ve successfully made it through the elements of art which I feel like they understand well, and they’re even better with the principles. We’ve also had a few guest speakers this week promoting different arts programs for the high school that they kids were super into. This week overall was super involved and it was nice to see them having so much fun. I think as a whole this week has been highly productive and enjoyable for pretty much everyone.
I cant say TOO much about this past week as I was out of state in a trip, but the last day was such a bittersweet ending. It was really amazing seeing everyone’s projects come together and put on a bug performance, and they seemed really proud of themselves as well. Sitting around in a circle and hearing how much the kids got from the camp was really cathartic to hear, knowing all of the work actually went towards something and that they felt like they had a place here. I cant wait to see what happens at next years camp!
